8 Big Ways Central Federal Gave Back in 2018

As the year begins to come to a close, we at Central Federal are taking a look back at all that 2018 brought us. We have been fortunate to see so much growth and togetherness in our community, from veterans being paired up with caring companion animals to a local clinic expanding and providing their services under one roof. We’ve even had the honor of contributing to these great causes throughout the year through the Central Federal Community Foundation, which provides financial support to charitable organizations in the communities we serve. All donations were made through the Foundation.

Take a look back with us and see how we helped our community over the course of the year:

Hope Alliance of Missouri’s Backpack Program – We presented Hope Alliance of Missouri a check for $12,000 on January 24 to help fund their Backpack Program. This program provides backpacks filled with healthy snacks and toiletries to children in the community through Rolla schools and daycare centers. It serves 450 children each week and is privately funded. We also hosted two food drives for Hope Alliance of Missouri last year and donated several bags of healthy snacks and toiletry items!

East Central Area Literacy Council – We were very pleased to assist the efforts of the East Central Area Literacy Council by presenting them with a check for $2,000 on January 31, along with tote bags, pens, and notepads. This donation helped the council purchase training materials and other necessities for their literacy program, which helps increase literacy for adult learners through the help of volunteer tutors. Additionally, the council helps students improve their skills in basic math, reading, writing, social studies, and science, thanks to their partnership with East Central College. These adults are then able to obtain a high school equivalency, prepare for secondary education, and develop their job skills!

Your Community Health Center – Once a 5-patient room clinic located on the fourth floor of Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Your Community Health Center is now able to provide all of their services under one roof as of May 29. Currently boasting 11 patient rooms and two additional rooms specifically used for behavioral health, the clinic accomplished this long-awaited project partially in thanks to Central Federal. We presented them with a $15,000 check on April 18, which allowed them to purchase bariatric equipment for their services.

City of Rolla’s Dog Park – We are excited to be a part of a wonderful initiative in Rolla – the creation of a new dog park at Buehler Park! We donated $1,000 on June 18 to go toward the new dog park, which is slated to open before the end of the year. The funds will go toward fencing, necessary equipment, and more.

Arts Rolla – We also donated $5,000 on September 18 to Arts Rolla, a local organization that promotes the arts in our community through a variety of programs and events. Part of our donation was put toward sponsoring their upcoming art exhibit, which features the works of four local women. The exhibit takes place between January 29 and February 26 and includes a variety of landscapes, portraits, abstract art, and fantasy art. You won’t want to miss it!

Missouri Patriot Paws – If you haven’t heard about this organization, listen up. This Rolla-based organization provides trained service dogs for military veterans and first responders in Missouri who are suffering from PTSD. Most of these dogs are rescued from shelters, trained, and then paired up with a veteran. We donated $5,000 to Missouri Patriot Paws on September 18 to be promoted for Veteran’s Day this year!

Rolla Animal Shelter – The Rolla Animal Shelter has served the Phelps County region for the past 45 years. Unfortunately, their building was lacking many of the amenities necessary to care for animals looking for a forever home. The shelter is opening a new 6,500-square-foot facility, which will include indoor and outdoor dog runs, upgraded ventilation systems, proper drainage, improved cat cages and play areas, adoption rooms, and quarantine areas. Our donation of $25,000, which was made on November 16, helped cover the cost of landscaping for the front of the new building to give it a welcoming touch.

Employee Relay for Life – Our employees enjoy wearing jeans on Fridays, not only for comfort but also because the contributions made to our blue jean funds go to good causes. This year, our employees donated a total of $250 to The Relay For Life in lieu of walking at the event. We were later presented with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Relay For Life Committee!

We are grateful for our community and look forward to lending a helping hand to local charities and events in the future. Here’s to 2019!
